Mary Kay - All about that base *

It's great to have options when it comes to your base - my skin is everchanging...some days I'll have super dry skin and then other days I'll have fairly normal or combo skin. I don't have a predictable routine when it comes to make up, my choices are dependent on what my skin texture is like on that particular day. If I have normal skin I'll opt for a foundation, but if my skin is dry and flakey I will most likely be wearing a tinted moisturiser, bb cream or cc cream.

Mary Kay CC Cream Sunscreen SPF 15 claims to instantly brighten, protect against future skin damage, hydrate and diminish the look of blemishes and redness.

This product comes in a plastic tube with a pump dispenser containing 29ml worth of product and is available in 4 shades. Unlike some, if not most pumps, this one is easy to control and dispenses just the right amount so you're less likely to waste product. The formula is described to be silky and lightweight with a natural, yet flawless looking coverage that is suitable for a wide range of skin tones. The Mary Kay CC cream is a colour-correcting base product containing SPF 15 and provides sun protection, hydration, anti-aging benefits with a light to medium coverage.

The consistency of this CC cream is quite viscous, but very creamy and emollient so it blends effortlessly to provide even coverage with one standard pump. This product has a silky smooth and creamy texture with the perfect amount of pigmentation (medium coverage). This reduced the look of fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and minimises the look of pores. Mary Kay CC cream is perfect for dry to normal skin types since it does not accentuate or cling to dry patches, flakes or irritate the skin. It has a natural finish and looks/feels like skin. It blends into the skin seamlessly and gives the skin a very subtle luminous sheen.

Mary Kay CC cream wears up to 5 hours alone and 8 hours with the Mary Kay translucent setting powder. I didn't notice any patchiness or separation but it did notice it slightly oxidising, nothing extreme though. The formula is lightweight and feels like a thin veil. It doesn't cake up, look chunky or thick and it's non-sticky, non-greasy and wears comfortably throughout the day. This product does not have a fragrance and did not cause any irritations or break outs on my dry, sensitive skin.

Overall, this product worked really well for me, I have no complaints about it except for the fact that light/medium was slightly too dark for my pale skin tone. It has a neutral-golden/yellow undertone though, so I'm pleased about that...

Another product I have been loving is the Mary Kay Translucent Loose Powder. The translucent aspect of it makes it compatible with all skin tones from lightest to darkest. This product claims to be a long-wearing, shine-controlling powder that set foundation down to a sheer invisible finish and has light-diffusing properties designed to blur imperfections for a skin-perfecting look. It is also described to be weightless, natural and velvety soft on the skin.

The Mary Kay Translucent Loose powder contains 0.39oz worth of product. It instantly sets my foundation, eliminates shine and feels amazingly soft and weightless. It does not look cakey or feel overly powdery - it just looks like skin, feels like skin and moves like skin! It is not completely mattifying and does not aggravate dry skin, in fact, it's a soft-velvet finish with a slightly indistinct luminosity. It really does provide that "soft-focus finish" and works perfectly over any foundation or bb/cc cream.

Once everything is set in place, I will finish off the look with my Mary Kay Finishing Spray by Skindinavia. This spray ensures that my make up looks fresh and stays put. I'm not too sure if I notice a significant difference when it comes to prolonging my make up but I did notice it to be very lightweight and very refreshing. I normally don't use finishing sprays unless my skin is super dry or a foundation has gone patchy and is clinging to dry skin - this works great as a instant fix for that. I would say this product is a lot more comfortable to wear and feels a lot more natural than my MAC fix+. If I had to compare the two, I'd say they work the same way except Mary Kay finishing spray does not feel like a mask, it's super fast drying and it does not clog my pores or cause any irritations. To apply I spray this at least 30cm away from my face in a "X" and "T" formation.

I'm very impressed with the quality of these products, and would definitely recommend them. For further product details, prices and orders you can shop all mentioned Mary Kay products here on their official website.

  1. WHAT?! Mary Kay have joined forces with Skindinavia!?! That's sounds awesome! I'm so lazy with finishing sprays because I can never really tell if a spray helps at all.

    1. Same! I rarely use finishing sprays but it works great for applying wet eyeshadows and helps blend out foundations that are a bit on the clumpy or powdery side!
